Cirugía dentofacial
Muchas personas padecen una maloclusión, es decir sus dientes superiores e inferiores no “engranan” de forma adecuada. La mayor parte de las maloclusiones pueden ser tratadas por un ortodoncista mediante aparatos fijos o removibles, pero si hay una disarmonia severa de los huesos de la cara (maxilar superior y mandíbula) puede ser necesaria una intervención quirúrgica para corregirla.
La falta de armonía en el desarrollo y tamaño de dichos huesos provoca también anomalías en el perfíl del rostro. Las intervenciones de cirugía ortognática se utilizan para tratar esas deformidades dentofaciales.
La cirugía dentofacial está dirigida a pacientes que teniendo una deformidad dentofacial buscan mejorar el aspecto de su cara y la falta de engranaje de sus dientes.
Dentofacial surgery
Many people suffer from malocclusion, that is, their upper and lower teeth do not "mesh" properly. Most malocclusions can be treated by an orthodontist using fixed or removable appliances, but if there is severe disharmony of the bones of the face (upper jaw and mandible) surgical intervention may be necessary to correct it.
