ATM.
MTA. Temporomandibular joint
The temporomandibular joint is the joint between the temporal bone and
the jaw. These are actually two joints, one on each side of the head, that
function synchronously. It is one of the few movable joints in the head.
It is composed of a set of anatomical structures that, with the help of
specific muscle groups, allows the jaw to execute varied movements
applied to masticatory function.
There is also a tooth between the pieces of the two jaws, which
maintains an interdependent relationship with TMJ. Any disorder
functional or pathological location in any of them will be able to
alter the integrity of their respective constituent elements.
